Marta Mondelli

Marta was born in Napoli and grew up in Bologna, where she graduated in Ancient History. While in college, she studied at the Theater School of Bologna with Alessandra Galante Garrone, where she learned Lecoq method, worked with masks and mastered acrobatics. Marta has been acting professionally in theater and film since 2001. She has worked next to Italian actors Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Mariangela Melato, Adriano Giannini, Sara D’Amario, Ignazio Oliva and Celeste Moratti. In the US she appeared in films with Anthony Mackie, Jay Mahor, Brittany Murphy and Ed Burns. In New York she works as lead actress in bilingual productions of Italian authors for the theater company Kairos Italy Theater directed by Laura Caparrotti. She is also a writer and a freelance journalist (she writes for the Huffington Post). Her first screenplay, the drama Eve’s Story was a finalist at the Screenplay Festival 2005. Her second script, the dark comedy The Contenders, is her directorial debut. The film screened in international film festivals, opened theatrically in New York City in 2010. She published her first novel, Occhi Di Cane Cuore Di Cervo this year in Italy and her new script, the drama A Small Accident, was among the finalists and won a Honorable Mention at the Table Read My Screenplay Contest at Sundance 2011.
